I lead a program of radical government reform, which over five years, cumulatively saved 75 billion dollars, roughly, from efficiency savings…

...At the end of it, you need top cover from the most senior people in government. You need competent and confident people who can do difficult stuff and get it done and who can inspire others around the system.”

Francis Maude lead the UK Government to become a world leader for digital transformation, spear-heading the GDS, now replicated by multiple government teams around the world.

In Why Change, Francis explains how digital can open data, improve transparency and transform how governments orient their services to enhance interactions with businesses, and the citizens they serve.

Rachid Guernaoui

Rachid is the Deputy Mayor for Finance, Integration and City Districts in the city of The Hague and also responsible for ICT and the municipal organisation.

He will talk about his ambition, plans and deliverables to make The Hague a strong, secure and digital city.

Andrew Greenway

Andrew was part responsible at GDS for developing the wider Government digital strategy, leading on digital transformation and creating a standard for all government services online.

He will talk about the practical first steps that the UK and others around the world (including Canada, Argentina and Peru) have taken to move from strategy to delivery - converting 'digital' from government documents into real improvements for citizens and businesses.

Embracing failure while delivering great digital solutions

Matthijs Goense

Matthijs is innovation designer at Novum, the innovation lab of the Dutch Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB). Together with his colleagues he aims to enhance the standard of living of Dutch citizens by making use of innovative ways of working and new technology.

He will talk about how Novum creates innovative and human-centered solutions for Dutch citizens. He hopes to inspire his fellow civil servants to embrace failure and learning as integral part of the process to deliver digital government.

A software developer by background, James built and led the technical team operating government platforms, making sure that tech skills were an effective part of multidisciplinary teams.

Mark McNally

Over the last five years, WORTH have designed and built digital services for both the UK and Dutch government. In this presentation, McNally weighs in on the key differences between the two countries when it comes to delivering government digital services in their respective contexts.
